Staniel Cay sailing - an unique experience
Staniel Cay lies 129km (80 miles) southeast of Nassau at the southern end of the little Pipe Creek archipelago, which is part of the Exuma Cays. It's a 13km (8-mile) chain of mostly uninhabited islets, sandy beaches, coral reefs, and bonefish flats. There are many places for snug anchorages, making this a favorite yachting stopover in the mid-Exumas. Staniel Cay, known for years as "Stanyard," has no golf course or tennis courts, but it's the perfect island for "the great escape." It's home to just 80 full-time residents. You will find the marina docks have been recently renovated and expanded, with room up to 18 boats. The approaches from both the banks (West) and The Exuma Sound (East) are relatively straightforward. However, it is strongly recommended a good, recent chart for first-time visitors. The Explorer Charts and The Yachtsmans Guide regularly get excellent reviews from marina guests. All the guests have access to one of our 13-foot Boston Whalers. Cruise to a nearby secluded island where the only footprints are your own. Visit the famous “swimming pigs” at Big Major Cay (but tell us to pack a little extra in your picnic lunch – the pigs are always hungry! ) From land the Exumas are spectacular, but from the sea, they are paradise. The newly renovated marina offers fuel, electricity, fresh water, ice, bait, etc. Even at low tide the dock can accommodate drafts up to 8 ½ feet. There are 18 secure slips that accommodate skiffs to mega-yachts. Power: 30, 50 or 100 - amp service (1 and 3 phases). The water is purified by a Watermakers, Inc. reverse osmosis watermaking system. The Staniel Cay Yacht Club offers the perfect getaway for cruising yachtsman, private pilots and anyone seeking a comfortable, casual vacation on a remote and unspoiled island. The Yacht Club has been an established part of the Staniel Cay community since 1956. Today there are 9 charming cottages, an 18-slip marina, a 3,000-ft. airstrip and a clubhouse with a wonderful restaurant and casual island bar.
